"In Order" [Baptized 2nd-3rd Grader]
Sacrament Preparation for the Baptized in Grades 2nd/3rd:
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” - (John 14:6).
At the Heart of everything we do as Catholics is a Person; the Person of Jesus Christ. Through the faithful reception of the Sacraments we encounter Christ in an intimate and powerful way. Here at St. Helen’s Catholic community, we are dedicated to preparing people of all ages for these sacred meetings with the Creator. We do this through our Faith Formation programs. In addition to Faith Formation, those students who are eligible to seek the Sacraments will be enrolled in the two-year Sacrament preparation program.
What is Sacrament Preparation for the Baptized in Grades 2nd/3rd?
Catechesis is a matter of conversion, it should not be looked at as a set number of steps that one takes, or a number of facts that one memorizes, but a lasting relationship that one enters into with the Lord.
In accordance with the diocese of Phoenix we implement a two-year program for the baptized in Grades 2nd-3rd, who are receiving the Sacraments of Initiation: Confirmation and first Eucharist.
In Order Sacrament Fees
There are no added Fees for “in order students” because baptized 2nd/3rd graders Sacrament Preparation classes are taken within their weekly Sunday Faith Formation classes.
Baptized 2nd Graders
In their 2nd grade year, the student will be prepared for the Sacrament of Reconciliation within their weekly faith formation classes.
Baptized 3rd Graders
Then, in their 3rd grade year, the student will be prepared for the reception of the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist within their weekly faith formation classes.

The Diocese of Phoenix is a restored order diocese, which means that both Confirmation and First Communion are ordinarily celebrated in 3rd grade, after two prior years of sacrament prep classes.
The Elementary Out of Order Sacramental Preparation is for those in 3rd grade who have not been baptized and/or those in 4th or 5th grade who have not completed their sacraments of initiation.
The Elementary Out of Order Sacramental Preparation is a two-year program that will prepare any unbaptized 3rd graders and/or 4th/5th grader who has not finished receiving any or all of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, First Communion), as well as, for their 1st Reconciliation.
The two-year sacramental preparation includes all of the following:
-- attending weekly Mass
-- attending weekly Sunday Faith Formation (depending on grade)
-- as well as, attending evening sacrament classes with a parent/godparent/sponsor.
Out of Order Fees
There is an additional $50 fee for “out of order students” because the unbaptized 3rd grader and/or 4th-5th grader attends both Sunday Faith Formation classes and additional Sacrament Preparation classes [Tuesday/Monday].
